Don't break Kansas law, ask your policymakers to change it!
Representative Brenda Landwehr, (R - Wichita), Chair of the Kansas State House Health and Human Services Committee, likely does not realize how many Kansans favor medical cannabis (MC). We must show her there is, indeed, widespread support---by phoning, emailing, and/or writing to her in favor of MC. We can be sure this is exactly what our opponents are doing AGAINST this issue. We cannot afford to remain passive and silent while they negatively influence our legislators! Contact Rep Landwehr TODAY! Keep your message short and always be respectful. Remember, we cannot bully our lawmakers into enacting a medical cannabis program, no matter how tempting it might be to try. ;-)

Just click on legislator's name to email or call them; even better, do both!

Follow these guidelines when writing to your legislators:

  • Write as an individual. Legislators want to hear from their actual constituents, not organization officials.
  • Write or call as soon as possible after a bill is introduced. Legislation can move quickly; legislators must hear from us BEFORE they vote.
  • Keep your letter brief and to the point; no more than one page. Just a paragraph or two is best.
  • Stick to the issue. Give the bill number.
  • Clearly state your position in the first paragraph; sum it up with reasons why the legislator should support your position.
  • Personalize your letter. Explain how the legislation will affect you and your loved ones.
  • Be respectful in your letter. It's fine to disagree with the legislator, but you lose credibility if you attack him/her. Always maintain civility.
  • Be sure to put your return address in the letter. Use your home or office address. If either is in the legislator's district use that as your return address.
  • Ask the legislator to get back to you with his/her position on the legislation in question.
  • Conclude by urging the lawmaker to act in support of your position, and thank him/her for taking the time to consider your views.
  • If you have a medical cannabis story it's always best to tell it yourself if you can---you're the one living it.
  • If you feel you need help in communicating your personal feelings to your representative, we can help. Just contact us.
  • For maximum impact, have your loved ones and caregivers sign your letter, too, and include any of your own medical workers who are supportive.
